1). Opuntia microdasys “Bunny Ears Cactus” or “Angel’s Wings”

Origin: Mexico
Flower: Yellow
Description: It can reach between 12 to 18 inches tall. The flowers and fruit are non-toxic to pets, however, each dot on the plant has about 100 spines. When the spines get on your skin, it can be very irritating.
Sun: Full sun to filtered sunlight
Water: Once a week during the summer and water only when the soil is dry during the winter.
Frost: Not frost tolerant

2). Opuntia violacea "Santa Rita"

Flower: Bright red or yellow
Description: Beautiful cactus that can grow as tall as 6 feet tall and as 8 feet wide. Like most prickly pears, the “Santa Rita” cactus have flat pads. A distinctive feature of this cactus is its bright violet or purple edges. Direct sun and little water will help maintain the stunning color. Great landscape or container plant!
Sun: Full sun
Water: Drought tolerant when established. When the pads look thin and shriveled, water and the plant will recover.
Frost: 30 °F

3). Opuntia ficus-indica “Burbank Spineless”

Origin: Mexico
Flower: Bright orange-yellow
Description: This variety grows to about 6 feet tall with multiple branches that are thick bluish-green pads. This cactus is also known for nopales. People cook the pads by removing the spines. The flowers also produce edible pear shaped reddish-purple fruits. Some people think the fruit tastes like a watermelon.
Sun: Full sun
Water: Drought tolerant, water only when soil is dry or you every 10 to 14 days.
Frost: 20 to 25° F
