The Final Reveal 🙀 Natural Stone Floor, Elmesthorpe

Chris and I have been working on a limestone floor restoration in Elmesthorpe, originally installed 20 years ago. Over a period of 10 days, we carefully restored the floors in stages, ensuring every part received the attention it needed. Along the way, I got to see first-hand and learn more about limestone restoration.

We began by grinding the main areas with our machines and hand-grinding the edges and grout lines to make the tiles flat and level with the grout. Using 50 and 100 grit metal-bonded diamond abrasives, we removed surface imperfections and spalling. At 100 grit, we performed resin repairs, filling holes with carefully colour-matched resin, blending different shades to match the natural tones of the tiles.

Next, we applied Faber MM to stabilise the stone and seal it before continuing through the resin diamond stages. At 100 resin, we used a limestone densifier to close the micro-pores in the surface. This supports the polishing process and enhances clarity and finish. A polishing powder then brought up the natural shine and a final treatment with Stone Soap sealed and protected the surface.

The limestone contains amazing fossils, now beautifully revealed after the restoration. A true glimpse into the stone’s natural history.
The project concluded with a thorough clean-down throughout the rooms. A big thanks to the customer for their patience and trust during the works, it’s been a pleasure restoring their floors 😺
