How To Massage Your Dog Part 6: The Pelvic Limb

Lesson 6 in my How To series is all about the back end.

This is arguably the most important/beneficial area of our dog that we can massage, mainly because it's the first area that causes issues as our dogs grow older, and its the area that is responsible for forward motion of our dog, so it's pretty important!

The great thing about this area is that we have a ton of lovely fleshy muscles that are easy to access and have a lot of belly to work in, so we can cover a lot of muscle real estate and do some really great work

Now, in some areas, especially the hamstring and inner thigh areas, our dogs aren't necessarily used to being touched there so always start slow and only work if the dog accepts it.

Techniques we rely on here are Compression, Circular Friction, Percussion, Jostling, Cross Fiber Friction and Palpation

And remember, never ever start heavy, always warm up using light and medium levels of pressure to warm up the area first, and if your dog reacts negatively to anything you do, stop immediately!

And remember, love your dog!
