Описание к видео Studio Set , July 2023

Mouthpieces (in order of appearance)

1. Vintage Custom double cup, 34 throat (As measured by Terry Warburton), tight backbore. .660ish inner diameter. soft rim, mouthpiece blank visually similar to “King S1”- leading me to believe this was possibly a King “Artist” prototype from the 1930’s-1950’s… exact age and maker and original owner(s) unknown.

2. Bob Reeves “Zinger”, stock Bob Reeves 42 screw-rim, 28 throat, .656 inner diameter, modified 692S backbore. (Doc Severinsen - special), with Gold-Plated Red Brass “Lefreque” Tone Bridge. Underpart and rim purchased by me from Andrew Golden. I use this piece for classical/legit/brass quintet work.

3. 1920’s Vincent Bach Corp., New York 7, deep vintage funnel cup, with custom Ken Titmus custom “Oleo” screw-rim (A “Big-Time Soft” rim for a “Buttery” tone). Inner Diameter is between .655-.660ish. Stock 29 throat- the smaller throat balances the deep funnel cup well. Original 1920’s Original rim was very narrow and sharp, this is why Ken Titmus made me a custom rim for it. Very rich, “buttery” tone, not efficient up high, nor designed for upper-register work.

4. Schilke “Baker” “*”, (Chet Baker Special) this EXACT mouthpiece before you was owned and played by Chet Baker himself in the late 1970’s. C cup with comfy gentle inner slope, soft rim, more efficient than any other C cup I’ve tried. 27 throat. Approx .662 inner diameter. A custom mouthpiece made expressly for Chet, based on his Bach Mt. Vernon 6C, but with a few slight variations: a slightly more efficient cup slope (Thus the “*” designation) and larger backbore. Lots of “chew” in the sound on this piece.

5. Conn Mello 6, Short-Shank Mellophone mouthpiece with trumpet shank. Approx. .662-.664ish inner diameter. VERY deep funnel cup (Deeper than my New York Bach 7), large throat (20-ish(?)) , medium-large backbore. Rich Ballad-Tone.

6. Cornet Giardinelli 7VS. This size and make of cornet mouthpiece was utilized by Chuck Mangione in his Yamaha 631 Flugel, through use of a Cornet-To-Large-Morse-Flugel adaptor. Approx. .655 inner diameter, 27 throat, Medium-Large backbore, Medium-V cup.

You’ll notice all these pieces have Inner Diameters that are relatively close, all within .010 of each other. ALL have soft inner and outer rim-bites. The pieces I use for upper register work have very small throats, the pieces I use for lower register work have large throats.
