Kruszwica is situated in the Gniezno Lake District, on the northern shore of Lake Gopło, at the point where the Noteć River flows out of it. The royal town, situated in the second half of the 16th century in the Kruszwica poviat of the Brzescujawy Province, belonged to the Kruszwica County. During the partitions, the city was called the German Kruschwitz. In the years 1975–1998, the city administratively belonged to the Bydgoszcz Province.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland from December 31, 2020, Kruszwica had 8709 inhabitants.
In 2012, it celebrated the 590th anniversary of granting city rights.
Kruszwica is an important economic, commercial and cultural center of the region. There are food industry plants here. Tourism, associated with the beginnings of Polish statehood, plays a huge role in the life of the city.
