From ancient times to the modern scientific age, humanity has sought to understand the origin and development of the universe. Vedic insights into cosmic creation are increasingly being echoed in modern scientific theories on the origin of the universe and evolution. Vedic understanding of creation originated from the direct perception by Ṛishis in deep meditation, wherein individual awareness became aligned with cosmic consciousness. This experiential wisdom was preserved and transmitted through the sacred oral tradition.

Every effect must have a cause, and Vedic literature offers a profound metaphysical explanation rooted in the concept of Paramātma or Brahman, the infinite, absolute Truth. From this ultimate cause, through the power of Māya, all creation arises by the sequential grossification of the five great elements.
