Описание к видео Invest in Girls at Fifth Annual WIT Mother-Daughter Brunch

Kalisha Figures, PhD, wife of United States Congressman Shomari C. Figures of Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, will be “In Conversation” with Monique Couvson, author of Girls, Unlimited: How to Invest in Our Daughters with More Than Money at a Women’s History Month celebration. Popular WSFA 12 News Anchor Valorie Lawson will moderate thr conversation about investing in girls.

Women in Training, Inc. (WIT ), a girls empowerment organization, will hold its Fifth Annual WIT Mother-Daughter Brunch to help end period poverty on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center, 201 Tallapoosa Street in Montgomery.

During the event, State Rep. Rolanda Hollis will officially induct the fifth grade Junior Monarchs and sixth- through 12th-grade Monarchs into the WIT Leadership Development Academy. The goal of the academy is to develop a cohort of young women with a strong understanding of global issues, career options and a commitment to service.

During the Mother-Daughter Brunch, Women in Training will also honor the unity of women and girls.

"We are celebrating all women and girls as the mothers and daughters of creation," said Oloye Adeyela Bennett, WIT president and CEO.

"Everyone is welcome to celebrate womanhood, including aunties and nieces, grandmothers and granddaughters, biological sisters, sorority sisters, spiritual sisters, friends, mentors and mentees, godmothers and goddaughters, cousins, and of course mothers and daughters,” Bennett said, adding that “The men and boys who love and honor women and girls are also welcome to join us!”

The WIT Mother-Daughter Brunch raises funds to support the WITKITS Campaign to help end period poverty. The event also raises funds to support the Monarchs in the WIT Leadership Development Academy. The academy consists of academic and ACT tutoring, experiential learning opportunities, financial literacy training and weekend retreats for the young leaders, who are affectionately called WIT Monarchs.

In addition to their other activities, WIT Monarchs and Junior Monarchs volunteer to pack and give away WITKITS — canvas bags full of feminine hygiene products — to at-risk girls and young women.

"One in four girls and young women living in the United States skip school or miss work because they cannot afford sanitary pads or tampons to stay healthy and clean during their period," Bennett said.

WIT also provides educational information programs about menstruation for girls and publishes the brochure, The WIT Guide to the Menstrual Cycle.

The distinguished chairwomen for the Fifth Annual WIT Mother-Daughter Brunch are Mimi Johnson, Ed.D.; Sonja Val McCarden; WIT Board Member and Medical Chairwoman Celeste Reese, M.D.; Pamela Tuck, M.D.; Denise Vaughn, Ph.D.; and WIT Board Member and Development Chairwoman Sandra Whatley-Washington.

About Women In Training

One in four girls and young women living in the United States skip school or miss work because they cannot afford sanitary pads or tampons to stay healthy and clean during their period. To help alleviate period poverty,
Women in Training, Inc. (WIT)’s teenage twin co-founders, Breanna and Brooke Bennett, successfully advocated for the passage of Alabama State Rep. Rolanda Hollis’ HB 50 that allocates $400,000 annually to Title I schools to provide menstrual supplies for more than 56,000 menstruating girls statewide.
