Turtle Lake is the last private lake in Oakland County. Located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, this 40-acre lake is 80 feet at its deepest point.

The crisp, clear water of Turtle Lake is spring fed. In this area, only electric motors and pleasure craft like canoes and kayaks are allowed. They must not be any longer than 20 feet and no wider than 9 feet.

The beginnings of Turtle Lake

A rich family used to own 315 acres of land in Oakland County. It was then known as Turtle Lake Farms. It included a 211-acre parcel referred to as “The Homestead.”

Turtle Lake Farms was then bequeathed to the Cathedral of St. Paul and the Episcopal Diocese. The property was sold to a prominent developer in 1983, who renovated the existing buildings.

Originally approved for 277 home sites, Johnson reduced the density and created 101 homes sites, which eventually became the impressive Turtle Lake community.

It also has easy access to public and private schools in the Bloomfield School District. Many families in Turtle Lake send their children to different private schools located in the area. There are also some who prefer a public school system and have chosen the high rated Bloomfield Hills Public Schools.
