P-39 “Aircobra”
flown by Alexander Filatov.
Senior lieutenant, commander of the 2nd squadron. He was the best pilot of the 30th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment.
Conducted 35 air battles, personally shot down 19 (or 21) aircraft and 4 in a group.
...
His bird is painted in the standard American olive drab color, with Soviet markings applied over the US ones.

Alexander Pokryshkin
(Soviet AS number 2), called P-39, his favorite plane!
...
“Airacobra” was equipped mainly by the Guards regiments, and the most effective aces of the Red Army Air Force chose this particular machine:
Grigory Rechkalov, Alexander Klubov, Nikolai Gulaev, Pavel Kamozin, brothers Dmitry and Boris Glinka!

By the way, many of them removed the wing machine guns (as in my diorama) to reduce weight (and therefore increase speed and maneuverability), and a couple of well-aimed shots from the powerful central 37 mm cannon were enough for Messer.
