Water Hemlock - Identification and Look-a-Likes

Water Hemlock has the potential to take a life so it is incredibly important to learn what this looks like in order to NOT make a mistake when foraging. Water Hemlock (Cicuta maculata) grows throughout the U.S. and Canada. In some western states and parts of Canada there is a western variety, Cicuta douglasii.

Its toxin, cicutoxin, can cause delirium, nausea, convulsions, abdominal pain, seizures, and vomiting within 60 minutes of ingestion.
