This 3D 180 VR video will take you through Spark IV: A New World?, the fourth installment of the collaborative Spark pop-up exhibition presented by Towson University and University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in partnership with Maryland Art Place (MAP) and through the sponsorship of PNC Bank. The exhibition will be held in MAP's main gallery space in Baltimore from April 29 through June 26, 2021, with opportunities to experience the exhibition and programs virtually. The poster at the beginning of the exhibition reads as follows:
A New World? — the fourth installment of the Spark pop-up exhibition series — features work by Towson University and UMBC faculty and student artists. Collectively, the work presented reflects the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as longer-term concerns about climate change and the fight for equality and justice.
The exhibition is framed around five themes that tap the current zeitgeist: Altered Time, Imagined Places, Future Focus, Climate Horizon, and Equitable Future.
Reflecting on the acute chaos, upheaval, and uncertainty that dominated this past year, these artists help us see our world and consider how to cope, adapt, and persevere through whatever lies ahead. The future is not written and needs our collective hope and action.
Artists in the exhibition include Amanda Burnham, Carrie Fucile, Evan Tedlock, Foster Reynolds-Santiago, Grace Doyle, lrene Chan, Jenn Figg & Matthew McCormack, Jon Lundak, Kelley Bell & Melissa Penley Cormier, Kyohei Abe, Luci Jockel, Lynn Cazabon, Monique Crabb, Nahid Tootoonchi, Jenee Meteer, Kat Navarro, Kimberly Hopkins, Rahne Alexander, Ryan Shelley, Safiyah Cheatam, Samantha Sethi, Sarah Sharp, Sookkyung Park, and Stephen Bradley.
Spark IV is curated by Catherine Borg, and its program continues online. Visit sparkbaltimore.org to view a showcase of student artwork, video screenings of work by faculty and students, and upcoming event information.
