Описание к видео Williams Orchards | Ken’s last season picking apples | Rolling Prairie Indiana

Please give a Thumbs Up, SUBSCRIBE for more videos. Thanks! KEN'S LAST SEASON PICKING. It’s November 4th at the farm. Ken’s continue’s to pick and tell me more stories about life at William’s Orchards back in the 1930’s and 40’s. Talks about the Great Depression and the early 40’s when they had a busload of workers from the south arrive to pick. They would pick them up in Michigan City Indiana. “They were volume picker’s.” he said. "One year we packed 33,000 bushels of Apples." Ken said. "They’d roll them off their chests." "They got seventeen cents a bushel." He then goes on to tell Rick Erwin about what it takes to start your own apple orchard business. “You pretty much have to be a junior to a senior farmer to learn the apple business.” he says.

The day ended and it was cold! He unloaded his truckload of 1/2 bushels into the barn and said it was too late in the season to sell the apples but would give them away to those in need. Ken stopped picking that year at 95 but continued for another three years cutting grass. Here’s another clip and bit of sage advice from a third generation apple orchard farmer Ken Williams of Williams Orchards in Rolling Prairie Indiana.

Rick Erwin Media spent an entire season with Ken, watching him pick apples while passing through with his camera learning about the real meaning of life. This is from an excerpt from Rick Erwin’s, Your Town Story documentary “Looking For Apple Ken.” Enjoy! For more info about Rick Erwin Media and how REM can visit your town; Go to www.erwinmedia.com
