A demonstration of mine, showing how a backup/import PS1 disc is booted on a non-modchipped PS1 using a cheat cart and something blocking the lid sensor to make the PS1 think that the lid is closed, the CD is inserted and that it can authenticate the region-specific wobble groove on a real disc, so that a backup/import can boot. And although it is usually a much safer method compared to what is known as the swap trick that is very risque, it is nothing compared to the much safer and more liable Tonyhax and Unirom that we have today, both of which offer no$ drive unlocks as long as your console isn't an NTSC-J one, have FreePSXBoot forms and the ability to be flashed onto cheat carts like the one used in the video.

The PS1 that I am using here, which is an SCPH-750X with the Parallel I/O port needed to run the cart, is modchipped, but I can still do this demonstration, even with the modchip.
