Track of Hurricane Helene (2024)

Hurricane Helene was a catastrophic hurricane that impacted the Southeastern United States, especially Florida and the Carolinas. Helene's precursor developed from a Central American Gyre which would move northwestward, intensifying to a tropical storm on September 24. It would intensify to a hurricane the following day, and into a major hurricane the day after that. On the evening of September 26 local time, Helene made a catastrophic Category 4 landfall in the Florida Big Bend, leaving devastation in its wake. It rapidly weakened during its trek up north into the United States, causing unprecedented flooding in the southern Appalachians, resulting in extreme death and damage tolls.
