We are now exploring with cities about land right issues that are associated with city development.

Land right is a politically charged issue.

It is the principal source of wealth and power in many countries

We see land issues from a climate change and livelihood point of view

We work with environmental organizations that have a deep connection with the judiciary, govt and parliament

If communities have secure rights to their land and if those rights are protected then the deforestation rates in the community forests are lower.

Urbanization is rapid in Africa and India

We are also familiar with 100 smart cities that are being developed in India.

There are a lot of positives that have come forward from the COP21 summit in Paris

WRI engaged in the SDG process when UN was drawing them up

We have tried to encourage the SDG negotiators to establish a separate target on securing collective land rights that has not happened

There are a number of platforms that WRI has developed in the field of Geospatial.


We do a lot of mapping and think that geo-referenced information is very important for decision makers.


We have also spent a lot of time at continental level and at regional level

We work at a scale larger than the national stage with civil societies and with the govts
