Rossio Train Station or Lisbon Central Train Station

The Rossio Train Station (Portuguese: Estaço de Caminhos de Ferro do Rossio) is a train station located in the Rossio plaza in Lisbon, Portugal. The station was once named as Estaço Central (Central Station), and the name is still visible on the building's facade. Trains enter the station, which is located in Lisbon's central metropolitan region, through a 2.9-kilometer (1.8-mile) tunnel.

The station was created by Portuguese architect José Lus Monteiro between 1886 and 1887 for the Portuguese Royal Railway Company. It was constructed in one of Lisbon's most renowned squares, the Rossio, and connects the city to the Sintra region.

The tunnel was dug beneath the city and is considered one of Portugal's most notable nineteenth-century engineering feats. It was finished in 1890, and the Circle Line in Lisbon, which connected to the North Line, opened soon after. Until 1957, the station was Lisbon's major passenger terminal; after that, only a few long-distance trains, mostly West Line services, terminated at Rossio until the early 1990s.
