Help from HOMES: The last day for Mecklenburg residents to apply for help through the HOMES program is next Friday, November 22. HOMES, also known as Helping Out Mecklenburg Homeowners with Economic Support, offers grants to homeowners to help reduce their property taxes. In Mecklenburg County, a qualifying homeowner can get up to 648-dollars. If you live in Charlotte or Davidson, you can get a little more. It’s easy to apply! Just visit Meck. NC. Gov / 4-Homes.

“Beyond the Bridge:” The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners proclaimed November as Homelessness Awareness Month. Several events are planned to recognize the work being done to reduce and prevent homelessness. They include a screening of the movie “Beyond the Bridge.” It’s a documentary about two large cities and their success at solving homelessness… and how other communities can benefit. The screening is November 19 at 6 p.m. at the Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte’s Center City campus.

On the Move for Healthy Molars: Public Health has put its dentists on the road! The mobile dental program will now provide oral health screenings to preschool children. The mobile unit has three fully equipped exam rooms, with a full-time dentist and a hygienist. The unit will provide oral health care to children at childcare centers, schools, community events, and anywhere it can be parked.
