Hello Kitty World was a Japan-only Famicom title published by the Sanrio subsidiary Character Soft. Not having been a Japanese pre-teen girl in the early 90s, I can't claim to know much about Hello Kitty or the cultural significance of this game, but there is a good reason for old-school Nintendo fans to check it out.

Hello Kitty World is a remake of Balloon Kid (   • Balloon Kid (Game Boy) Playthrough  ), the 1990 Game Boy-exclusive sequel to Balloon Fight (   • Balloon Fight (NES) Playthrough - Nintendo...  ) that had only been released in Europe and North America. The entire game was reskinned, but the gameplay, the level layouts, and the music are virtually identical to Balloon Kid's. It's a quality port, but that's to be expected given that some of Balloon Kid's staff worked on this version, too.

Even if you aren't a fan of cutesy anime stuff, Hello Kitty World is packed full of classic 8-bit Nintendo goodness that makes it worth giving a try.
