SIR News: Rajasthan is witnessing a major electoral roll shake-up as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise may lead to the removal of nearly 4.3 million voter names from the state’s voter lists. According to data shared by the Election Commission, the highest number of deletions is expected in urban centres such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota, raising concerns ahead of future elections.

The controversial SIR was conducted across 199 of Rajasthan’s 200 assembly constituencies, excluding Anta, where a byelection is currently underway. The revision process began on November 4 and covered 52,222 polling booths spread across 41 districts, with Booth Level Officers collecting and verifying enumeration forms from voters.

Election officials say the exercise is aimed at updating electoral rolls, removing duplicate entries, and ensuring accuracy. However, critics fear that such a large-scale revision could lead to eligible voters being excluded, particularly in densely populated urban areas.

The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published soon, giving voters an opportunity to raise objections or corrections. The final voter list is expected to be released in February 2026.

As political parties closely monitor developments, the Rajasthan SIR process is set to play a crucial role in shaping the state’s electoral landscape in the coming years.
