Los Angeles, May 15, 2024: A Venice man's mobile kiosk, used as a roller-skating rental business, was demolished during a homeless encampment cleanup on Oxford Avenue on Wednesday. The kiosk's owner, who may be homeless, attempted to move his business before the operation, but was informed by police that it could not remain on public property. Fortunately, he was able to salvage a storage locker full of roller skates before the demolition.

The cleanup involved multiple city agencies, including the LAPD, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Parks' Housing Coordinator. This multi-agency effort ensured the operation was conducted smoothly and safely, with team members donning protective gear to handle and dispose of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste efficiently.

This initiative is part of the City of Los Angeles' ongoing strategy to manage homelessness and improve public health, with LAHSA providing essential support services like food, water, and hygiene kits to those displaced. Under Councilwoman Traci Parks' leadership, the city is dedicated to enhancing safety and cleanliness while addressing the underlying causes of homelessness through effective and compassionate measures.
