“Thrust not achieved... falling... Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!” — those were the haunting final words of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and his crew aboard Air India Flight 171 before their Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed near Ahmedabad airport. The Aviation Ministry confirmed that the aircraft failed to gain altitude beyond 650 feet. Moments later, it slammed into a medical college hostel, erupting into flames. Ahmedabad Police have confirmed the distress call, while Air Traffic Control’s last responses went unanswered. All but one on board died, marking one of the deadliest aviation tragedies in India’s history.
