The Belair line is a Broad Gauge railway line that runs through the Adelaide Hills in the southeast running from Adelaide Railway to Belair Railway Station, the line and crossings are owned by Adelaide Metro, the trains that Adelaide Metro operated are 3000/3100 class trains.
The line starts off double track at Adelaide Railway Station and diverts to a single track just before Adelaide Showgrounds Railway Station, there is numerous passing loops along the line so that different directional trains can meet and pass each other.
The line runs parallel with the ARTC Adelaide - Melbourne Standard Gauge line and sees freight by numerous companies and interstate passenger trains run by Journey Beyond Rail, you can see a bunch of these trains during the video.
The line was constructed and then opened in 1883 running from Adelaide to Bridgewater which was a Broad Gauge line. Between 1919 and 1928, the original single-track Sleeps Hill tunnel was planned to be closed and instead been replaced by a new bridge that was suitable for 2 tracks not far from the original tunnel, thus the line been duplicated. Redhen railcars were used to transport passengers from Adelaide to Bridgewater, also freight trains were used on the line by Australian National, and passenger services beyond Belair out to Bridgewater was stopped in 1987. In 1995, the Adelaide bound Broad Gauge line was converted to Standard Gauge as part of the Standard Gauge project from Adelaide to Melbourne. In 2008, the Broad Gauge Adelaide Metro line was upgraded to have new concrete sleepers installed that was Dual Gauge although it was still had 2 rails and it was still Broad Gauge. In 2013 the line was electrified from Adelaide to Goodwood as a part of the Seaford line electrification project, the Adelaide to Goodwood electrification on the Belair line although it almost remained mostly useless, but in the future, the electrification project might happen to the rest of the Belair line.

Now for the crossings along the line, there are a total of 11 signalised crossings along the line, 3 in the Adelaide Hills and 8 in the Adelaide CBD. For the equipment along the line, you will mostly find Westinghouse and Western Cullen Hayes lights are either LED or incandescent, the line retains 2 crossings that have WRRS gate mechanisms, 3 that have GRS gate mechanisms and the rest are mostly Western Cullen Hayes or Westinghouse/McK&H gate mechanisms, there are a lot of Safetran Type 3 electronic bells that are older and newer, there is 3 crossings that have Western Cullen Hayes electronic bells at it. The rarest lights you will find along this line are GRS lex-c lights and GEC lights.
Between mid-2022, I have recorded both Main Rd railway crossings and Leader St railway crossings, one of them seeing the Overland at.
In December 2022 and January 2023, we had big plans to record the remaining crossings that haven't been recorded yet, at the time of those videos, the ARTC Adelaide - Melbourne was seeing more freight traffic due to the flooding in NSW and had to be diverted.
