The colon is the final part of the digestive tract. Colon cancer typically affects older adults though it can happen at any age. Colon cancer is the most commonly found among all gastrointestinal cancers. In India, colon cancer is the 3rd most diagnosed cancer. It is diagnosed in males & in women equally.

1:16 Colon cancer symptoms
The most common symptoms of colon cancer are -
Change in bowel habits - If you notice anything unusual in your bowel habits and if this change persists for more than 2 weeks then it is a sign of possible colon cancer which you need to address immediately.

Blood in stool - If you find blood in your stool for more than 2 weeks then it is considered a dangerous symptom of colon cancer & you should consult an expert at the earliest.
In studies, it has been found that if the location of colon cancer is on the left side of the colon then the color of your stool might be bright red or dark red & if the location of the colon
cancer is on the right side of your colon then you will notice your stool is black in color.

Unexplained weight loss - Unexplained weight loss that takes place without any diet and without any exercise is definitely not good. It is more likely that something is not good within the body. It is also seen that most of the patients diagnosed with colon cancer consult a doctor when they have lost around 10 to 15% of their normal weight which is very serious.

Bloating - When the tumor in the colon increases in size it blocks the colon which gives a bloating sensation.

If the tumor in the colon ruptures it can cause serious blood loss which decreases the amount of hemoglobin in our body resulting in anemia which is also an alarming sign of colon cancer.

Symptoms of advanced colon cancer that can be detected in the later stages of the cancer -
Ascites, Jaundice, Anemia, Abdominal distention, Abdominal pain or extreme weakness.

If you are facing any of these symptoms for more than 2 weeks it is considered as a serious symptom & must be diagnosed by a gastroenterologist at the earliest.
