My name's Sara Gunnoe, and I'm a physician assistant with the pediatric stem cell transplant program. I've always been interested in medicine from a very young age. At the age of nine, I was then diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and that really sparked my interest even further and really committed me to a career in medicine.

I really enjoy complex medical care and I enjoy learning. Stem cell transplant in the field of transplant gives me both of those things with very complex patients on our service, as well as the opportunity to continue to learn and be up to date with the most current medicine.

The thing that has shaped my career the most has been the patients and caregivers that I've experienced along the way. They are amazing people, true small heroes who go through a very complex and difficult time in their life and teach me lessons every time that I encounter them.

New patients arriving for stem cell transplants can expect a long process. There are many highs and many lows. However, we have a wonderful group of providers and support staff that are there to help guide patients and caregivers and families through the process.
