An Unforgettable Trip to Way Kambas National Park
Last year during the school holiday, I visited Way Kambas National Park in East Lampung with my family and a few close friends. It was my first time exploring this famous wildlife conservation area, and the trip turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had.
The journey began early in the morning. We left home before sunrise to avoid traffic and to make the most of the day. When we arrived at the park, the air felt fresh and cool, and the sound of birds welcomed us at the entrance. After buying our tickets, we were guided by a park ranger who explained the history and importance of Way Kambas as an elephant conservation center.
Next, we joined a tour to see the elephants. It was amazing to watch these gentle giants being cared for by their mahouts. We even had a chance to feed them bananas and sugarcane. After that, we continued the trip by walking through a special track in the forest, where we saw various animals such as deer, monkeys, and different kinds of birds. It felt like stepping into a living documentary.
In the afternoon, we watched an elephant training show. The elephants performed simple tasks like carrying logs, spraying water, and greeting the visitors. The show was both entertaining and educational, showing how intelligent and well-trained the elephants were. As the sun began to set, we took some photos together to capture the moment before heading back home.
The trip ended with tired but happy faces. I felt grateful for the experience because it opened my eyes to the importance of wildlife protection. Visiting Way Kambas National Park was not only fun but also meaningful, and I hope to return again someday.
