What causes this pinching pain in the top of the shoulder?
This is often blamed as a structural issue when its actually a shoulder biomechanics problem.
Structures under the Acromion Process can become inflamed from poor scapular movement, and then you begin to have pain with normal load and compression.
If it was a structural issue alone, then subacromial decompression surgeries would have great outcomes, which research shows they don’t.
So what should you work on?
While there isn’t one magical exercise to fix it, doing a mix of these things can help you get pain free again:
Retraining shoulder blade movement patterns.
Thoracic extension mobility.
Rotator cuff stability training.
