In this video, we explain what participating in an IOP group is actually like, so you know what to expect before you ever walk in or log on.
Here’s what most people want to know upfront:
What you can expect from the group experience:
✅ Small group sizes, typically averaging 6–8 participants per session, though attendance may vary day to day
✅ No pressure to talk or share personal details. You are never forced to speak or disclose anything you are not comfortable sharing
✅ Choice and control over what you share and when you share it
✅ Support if anxiety, panic, or overwhelm comes up. You can let us know during your intake so the group leader is aware, or reach out directly if those feelings arise later
✅ A clear plan for safety and decompression, created collaboratively with your group leader if needed
✅ The option to observe at first. You are not required to participate right away, and easing in by listening is completely okay
✅ Encouragement, not pressure, to participate over time as you feel more comfortable
✅ A judgment-free environment, with zero tolerance for judging or violating others’ beliefs, values, or perspectives
✅ Clear structure and boundaries, guided by an IOP onboarding document that outlines rules and expectations to keep the group safe
✅ Immediate staff support if boundaries are ever at risk, addressed directly to protect everyone in the group
