Alicent Hightower, queen to King Viserys I Targaryen, played a critical role in the bloody Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Despite surviving longer than most, her life was marked by devastating losses. Her father, Otto Hightower, was executed after the fall of King’s Landing. Her children faced tragic ends—Helaena, driven mad, took her own life; Aemond was killed in the Battle Above the Gods Eye; Daeron died at the Second Battle of Tumbleton; and her last surviving son, Aegon II, was poisoned.

In her final years, Alicent was confined to Maegor’s Holdfast, consumed by grief and isolation. She wept constantly, began talking to herself, and even grew to despise the color green—the very color she once wore with pride. With everyone she loved gone, Alicent died during the outbreak of the Winter Fever in 133 AC, broken by loss, her mind shattered by sorrow, and haunted by the fate of her family.

Her story remains one of the most heartbreaking in Westerosi history.
