Sam Garrett - I & I (Lyric Video)

Greetings family, I am so happy to share a little about the story of the next song from my forthcoming album with you here.

One morning I was making coffee and found this video of an elder Rastaman who’s name is ‘Ras Elder Iron Teacha’ / ‘Bongo’ and as I was watching, tears started rolling down my face at the beauty and majesty of this man and his spirit spoke to mine in a way I cannot convey. Some while after a dear friend of mine called Om Shanti came to my door and I poured him a cup and rolled one and we sat outside in the morning sun and watched the video together.

Some impulse came to grab my guitar, which was strange because I hadn’t been playing much and my guitar was in its case and put away. I got the guitar and immediately started to strum the chords and started to sing…

‘Give thanks for life, and praises to the most high’ as I sang those first words Om Shanti then came in with - ‘Don’t waste your time, imprisoned in the mind’ somehow the Grace of God just started flowing through us and the song started to take shape by itself with us just going back and forth with me singing a line and then Om Shanti singing one back to me, this is how the song was written.

I am not sure how long we were there for as we completely lost track of time but what I do know is that this elder’s was with us and has had a very profound effect on both of us, and in a sense this song is the manifestation of his satsang / wisdom / love.

Some time after in the summer I was in Germany playing at a festival and had been trying to reach the elder to get his blessing to use his voice in the track and had been in contact with @flagmanjudah who put me in touch with his son Ras Gabri.

One day I was just walking around the festival site and had a call from an unknown number and when I answered it was the elders face looking back at me. I was filled with joy and gratitude to have this connection with him and he said how much he loved the song and that I have his blessing to use his voice.

The presence and love I felt from his heart was immense and he shared how this song is going to touch the lives of many. After some time the signal cut out and I was just left sitting in silence in a deep state of peace and joy knowing that this song will one day be in the world.
