A definition of behavior that is useful in ethology is: the independent movement of an individual or a part of an individual as the result of the contraction of striated/skeletal muscles. This definition is intended to be compatible with synonyms of behavior, such as, "erbkoordination", "coordinated motor pattern", "fixed action pattern", "behavior pattern", "movement pattern", "modal action pattern", etc., that have been commonly used by ethologists. Other definitions of behavior may not be amenable to the types of questions ethologists ask about behavior, such as, "what is its evolutionary history/phylogeny", "how does it develop or what is its ontogeny, "what are the mechanisms involved" and "what is the survival value/adaptiveness of the behavior" - and they may not be intended to be.
