Longchang Hongnyu, commonly known as ‘Longchang’ originated after certain group of men from Changlang village, migrated to the present place. The initial migration of Longchang cannot be ascertained as there is no written documents to support the origin of Longchang and its people.
But the verbal history of the village ,as passed on to, by our forefathers ,first started its migration from the place called ‘YING’ which at present is located at the district of Longleang, the land of phom Naga. From there , a group of people migrated towards East, where they reached a place called LUNG and after which they again migrated to a place Angjangyang. There, they settled for some years and there as well, they left the place and migrated to another location just 5 miles to the north and settled at the plavce called CHANHPHELE presently called as CHANGLANG.So, the people LONGCHANG belonged to that group that left Angjangyang for Changlang. Again from Changlang, a section of people started to move out and they reached the present place called LONGCHANG HONGNYU.
The forefathers of Longchang wandered in search of a suitable place for a settlement , until they settled at the present location. Only after they reached the present place , did they give the name of the place as ‘LONGCHANG’. In local dialect we called it as ‘JENJANG LANGHAH’, which literally means ‘ Not to move to and fro any more, but to settle for generation to generations. Thus, the present generation is the 7th Generation in line since the inhabitation of LONGCHANG.
The clans that migrated and reached Longchnag are Pesho-hu, Eangtok, Yemshih-hu, Khuklum, Antuhu, Ngonglum , Chahpu-hu and Shenyu-hu.
Longchang is located under Aboi Sub-Division of Mon Dist. Nagaland. It is neighbored by Changlang Village in the East, Sowa Village in the West, Pango Village of Phom Naga in the North and Mohung Village in the South.
With the coming of christinity in 1952, today 99.87 % of its populations are Baptist Christian. Longchang today is divided into three administrative jurisdiction. Longchang Village with Seven morungs & 6000+ populations, ,Longchang Town with two morungs and L/Hongnyu with two morungs.
