The Mid-Hants Railway held its ‘AUTUMN STEAM GALA’ over the weekend of October 21st-23rd 2016.

This year had a repeat theme of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway following last year’s gala with seven locomotives in action including one unusual participant.

The locomotives featured were as follows…
LMSR rebuilt ‘Royal Scot’-class 4-6-0 No.46100 “Royal Scot” (courtesy of Icons of Steam)
BR(M) 4MT-class ‘Flying Pig’ 2-6-0 No.43106 (visiting from the Severn Valley Railway)
BR(M) 2MT-class ‘Mickey Mouse’ 2-6-2T No.41312
LMSR ‘Black 5’-class 4-6-0 No.45379
BR ‘Standard 4’-class 2-6-0 No.76017 (makings its gala debut following overhaul)
BR 9F-class 2-10-0 No.92212
BR Class 08 ‘Gronk’ 0-6-0DM No.08377 (recreating the final BR Service along the line in 1976)
Unfortunately, third guest locomotive SDJR 7F-class 2-8-0 No.53809 failed the day before the gala and was unable to take part. There was also a minor technical problem with “Royal Scot” on the Saturday resulting in its first round trip being partly worked by BR Class 33 ‘Crompton’ Bo-Bo No.33053 but was repaired to take part in the rest of the day’s runs.

Next year there will not be an Autumn Steam Gala as there will be a major two-weekend event in July to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the End of Steam on the Southern Region. Its place will be taken by a Diesel Gala.
