3:39 Diabetes Mellitus
is a group of diseases characterized by chronic elevated blood glucose levels and disturbances in proteins, fat and carbohydrates metabolism (mainly affects Carbohydrates).

4:31 Diabetes Mellitus Type I
(AKA) insulin dependent diabetes; is where Beta cells area damaged or destroyed creating a lack of insulin. Whiteout insulin glucose cannot enter the cells. Thus creating a dependence on insulin. The destruction of Beta cells is thought to be brought on by autoimmune processes or genetic factors.

7:00 Diabetes Mellitus Type 2
AKA Insulin resistance Diabetes; is where pancreatic Beta cells produce insulin, however, cells are resistant to it. This is usually treated with medication and dietary & exercise.
Type 1 and Type 2 modifications for massage are: Avoid vigorous and deep massage specially on the injection sites. Massage is found to increase insulin absorption by subcutaneous injection. Avoid these areas; Slower movement are used for clients with diabetes. Massage may decrease glucose levels, anxiety, neuropathy, and promotes relaxation.

is any enlargement of the thyroid. This enlargement may occur during puberty, pregnancy or iron deficiency. Goiters are more prevalent in countries where iodine intake is inadequate. Avoid massaging the anterior part of the neck and the thyroid itself. Otherwise you can give a full body massage.

10:36 Hashimoto's Disease
it is an underactive thyroid gland leading to thyroid hormone deficiency. It develops slowly over many years. It is the most common type of hypothyroidism in the USA. Avoid massaging anterior neck or the thyroid area. Accommodations must be made for frail clients who may not be able to lay prone, a lighter pressure and slower speed and you might need extra covering if they are cold.
