A VHSRip of Madacy Video's issue of Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film masterpiece METROPOLIS. This version features freeze-framed intertitles and a glaringly inappropriate score comprised of random needledrops.

This picture quality of this copy is also abysmal, it appears to be a dupe of a dupe of a dupe with no consideration given to contrast and brightness, in fact it's TOO bright. Characters become lost in blobs of white and the whole affair is only passably watchable but I'm uploading this here to demonstrate how parched silent film enthusiasts were for home video copies of these highly sought after masterpieces. There were slim pickings in the 1980s and 1990s most of them were budget-line releases who had no qualms about releasing a low quality product for a quick buck. This is how audiences had to experience silent films back in the heyday of home video and may be partially responsible for silent films falling out of favor during the dark ages of the 1970s - 1990s.
