Max arrived from Austria, and after a couple days of prep (food/gear buy and kayak acquisition) we were off to take a crack at Devils Postpile, one of the most infamous High Sierra multi-day trips. We camped in Mammoth and started off (perhaps a little late) the following day. To our surprise, there was a lot more hiking at the beginning (about 3 miles just down to the falls), followed by what seemed like 3-4 miles of mostly portaging through manzanita and thorn bushes across cliffs. We pushed hard all 3 days and were able to make it to the lake in time to hitch a ride across the last half (after about 2 hours of paddling against a strong headwind). We were starving and beat, but stoked on an amazing trip. Also, our legs looked like we had gotten in a fight with a herd of cats.
