India was in early trouble based on some outstanding seam bowling by Hasan Mahmud who had already picked up 4 wickets. But thanks to Jadeja and Ashwin they managed to recover. Bangladesh had won the toss and chosen to bowl, and within the first 10 overs they would have reduced India to 34/3. India was struggling at 144/6 by the afternoon session.

However, India’s recovery was led by Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) with an unbroken 195-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Ashwin's century, his sixth in Test cricket, and Jadeja's aggressive play helped India finish the day at a strong 339/6 after 80 overs
