In today’s journey through the Pacific Northwest we will explore several filming locations from the 1985 adventure film “The Goonies.” I fondly remember watching this movie many times throughout my childhood. Being able to travel to these extraordinary destinations from the film was a surreal experience that I will never forget. Today’s trip will begin from our previous stop in Cannon Beach, Oregon - which was utilized in filming The Goonies. This incredible beach stretches for 4 miles leading up to the famous Haystack Rock formation - the centerpiece of this beach.

After exploring the various tidal pools and witnessing the power of the Pacific Ocean it was now time to travel to today’s first stop on this itinerary. Ecola State Park is a cliffside paradise located just a few minutes away from Cannon Beach. Wrapping around Tillamook Head, between Seaside and Cannon Beach, Ecola State Park stretches along 9 miles of coastline and offers outstanding sightseeing and recreation opportunities combined with a storied past. Sightseeing opportunities begin the moment you enter the park. The entrance road meanders through a lush Sitka spruce forest, eventually opening up to a grassy bluff offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. You may recognize the viewpoint south, a scene from many published photographs. Sea stacks punctuate the long sweep of shoreline south, backed by the town of Cannon Beach and ridge of coastal mountains above. The “Lighthouse Lounge” restaurant was constructed at Ecola State Park for the filming of the Goonies. A scene from the 1990 film Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger was also filmed here.

After a remarkable stop at Ecola State Park we then continued north through Seaside en route to Astoria - home of the Goondocks. The next stop for today is the Oregon Film Museum located within the heart of downtown Astoria. Housed in the old Clatsop County Jail, a working jail from 1914 through 1976, the museum continues the building’s legacy as an actual working set for three movies: The Goonies, Short Circuit, and Come See The Paradise. There are several interactive exhibits throughout the museum in which you can take your own mugshot, produce your own movie scene and explore the gift shop.

The final stop in today’s video is the Goonies house itself - located on 368 38th St. in Astoria Oregon. I would recommend parking on the street further away from the house, since it is private property. I highly recommend visiting all of these places if you are a fan of this classic film, you will not regret it. Join me on an all new adventure through the Pacific Northwest!
