Botswana 2023: Mashatu Lion Encounters Part 2

Our first dramatic encounter with Mashatu’s lions was with a group of six young lions and lionesses fleeing from something which had frightened them. We never discovered what. Each day we were based at Euphorbia Villas we found these six in different areas. Even our guide / tracker had never seen six lions all drinking together. On another occasion we discovered a lion that, having been badly mauled in a fight with a competitor, now set out on a week’s mating (every 15 minutes!). On another occasion we found two young male lions who had just moved into the area having been cast out of their pride in another part of Mashatu. Panthera Leo is doing well in Mashatu.
