Random Access Memory (RAM) is the short-term, high-speed memory in a computer that temporarily stores data and programs currently in use for quick access by the processor. It's a volatile form of memory, meaning the data stored in it is lost when the computer is turned off. The amount and speed of RAM influence how many applications can run simultaneously and how fast they load, with more RAM allowing for more multitasking and faster performance.
How RAM works
Temporary storage: When you open an application or a file, it's loaded from your long-term storage (like a hard drive or SSD) into RAM.
Fast access: The processor can then quickly access this information from RAM, allowing programs to run smoothly.
Volatile nature: Once the computer shuts down, all the data in RAM is erased, and the operating system and programs are reloaded from the hard drive on the next startup.
