Baffled by the different types of connectors that there are in the world of audio? Well, I offer a brief discussion of the connector types while also discussing the preliminary set up of the Tascam UH-7000 as the audio interface of our main computer. I mention XLR connectors, RCA connectors, 3.5mm TRS connectors, as well as mentioning the preferences of USB busses that would be best for installing the Tascam UH-7000 on.

I must mention that as I talk about in my rather confused introduction that this video was rather difficult to get a grip on because there are essentially two different audiences that this material would be useful to. However, the audience that is just being introduced to pro audio (myself included) can always use a refresher on what the different connector types there are because as we move more and more toward a purely digital world, more and more of the historic capabilities will be left behind.

For example, I've run into the situation a few times where someone couldn't use an old stereo as the external speakers for their computer! Primarily because they didn't know what an RCA (Radio Corporation of America) connector was! Or that there was such a thing as an adapter cable with both an RCA male end and a 3.5mm phono plug on the other!

Edit: I wanted to add that using an old integrated amplifier like the Sony TA-F3A with the Axiom Audio M22 speakers is a very fine solution to get quality audio from ones computer system while at the same time sparing vintage equipment from the scrap heap.

It's such a shame that so many of us are starting to forget what it takes to utilize analog audio in a digital world when the only exposure we get to sound anymore is from a cheap bluetooth speaker...which uses no physical connector at all!

This is where an outboard audio interface can lead to so many discoveries downstream that one never expected to make! So, it's really in this light that I offer my rather humble and jumbled introduction to giving the average individual the impetus to try something like this too.....and then discover how sublime real audio can truly be.

And while Salizar goes in a completely different direction than myself -- that's the beauty of choice -- we can buy a good microphone and then change or upgrade the interface separately should the need arise!
