Pansori narrative singing is the representative Korean vocal genre. In pansori, one singer delivers an epic story accompanied by one drummer, the gosu, The songs are an amalgam of poetic, dramatic, narrative, vocal, and musical elements. Five stories have survived until today, among which “Chunghyangga” is the best-known and most-loved in all the pansori repertoire. “Chunhyangga” is the inter-class love story of Chunhyang, daughter of retired female entertainer Wolmae, and Mongryong, son of the Namwon governor. “Sarangga (Love Song),” is the most well-known piece from “Chunghyangga” and of various songs from among all five pansori repertoires
