Attorney General Michaelia Cash has stressed sexual harassment in the workplace is absolutely “unacceptable” and correcting it requires a society-wide response.

Speaking today following the release of Kate Jenkins’ Respect@Work report, Ms Cash touted the recommendations handed down to prevent harassment in the workplace moving forward.

“Without a doubt it provides a series of comprehensive recommendations to prevent … and address sexual harassment,” she said.

“What the report also highlights though is that it’s not about one person or one industry, this is a societal problem that requires a societal response.

“In that regard the report itself and its recommendations are addressed to the Australian government, state and territory governments, employers and industry groups. We all have a role … in stopping sexual harassment.”

Ms Cash also highlighted “unacceptable” statistics offered by Prime Minster Scott Morrison which revealed 39 per cent of women and 26 per cent of men had recently experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

“Everybody has the right to feel safe in the workplace,” she stressed.
