The difference is really state to state. Though DWI exists in many states as "Driving While Intoxicated", Florida just uses DUI, which is "Driving Under the Influence". They have similar points to get across, but DUI is the only one that is recognized and used to charge an individual.

In some states, there's even OWI that is associated with cases we understand to be DUI. Nevertheless, intoxication from drugs and/or alcohol is going to be the grounds of an individual being arrested by a police officer and eventually tried for illegally operating a vehicle.
