Designed in a modern interpretation of the old Canadian cottages that comprised of a variety of sleeping cabins and a main gathering cottage, this modern cottage features three sleeping/living pods that are conveniently connected through timber pergolas and a large sun filled deck. The low mono slope profile of the pods gives this three-season cottage a distinctively modern form. The cottage blends beautifully into its surroundings while also providing a striking and unique ‘lake appeal’ as you approach the cottage by boat. The cottage is packed with floor to ceiling windows connecting you with the surrounding landscape from everywhere in the cottage.

The main pod houses the kitchen and living area, while the other two pods contain the bedrooms. One sleeping pod holds the primary suite, creating a luxuriously private cabin for the owners with a large bedroom, beautifully appointed ensuite bathroom, and a private deck. The second sleeping pod contains two well-sized bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The flexibility of the pod design makes this cottage as comfortable for two people enjoying a quiet weekend together as for hosting cocktail parties or overnight guests.

Each pod offers a connection to nature—and gorgeous lakefront views—through walls of 13-foot-high windows. Look up at the cottage from the water and the windows will make it appear as if the cottage has disappeared into the surrounding trees. The large deck allows for easy connection to each of the pods and truly seamless indoor/outdoor living.

The contemporary style of this bungalow cottage is mirrored in the interior. White painted walls, black framed windows, and timber and wood ceilings throughout the home beautifully unify the interior, letting the landscape take center stage. Finishes in the bathrooms and kitchen are thoughtful and clean lined. The use of only lower cabinets in the kitchen provides a minimalistic feel, while the concrete on the back wall and island top adds an industrial touch to the space.

The simple shed style timber roof and tongue-and-groove ceiling and overhangs are left clear coated to enhance the Douglas fir material.

In collaboration with architects Mackenzie Design Inc, this Georgian Bay cottage is an utterly unique escape.
