God has provided with two lungs, one heart, two kidneys, two eyes and the major functions of lung is to clear the lungs of lot of waste products and wash out carbon dioxide and take in oxygen and one lung is sufficient. We can in the presence of pneumonectomy or some bad lung disease sometimes congenital atresia or which is destroyed because of TB and patient literally suffers from one lung and definitely the other lungs take over it gets ballooned out having compensatory emphysema. Sometimes it can take a load and we can really live with one lung and if it is overwhelming and if you can't handle it because of obesity and the continued risk factors of smoking and other things the disease really gets worsened. Definitely we can live with the one lung and we have seen in many patients who have post pneumonectomy or they went upon some destruction of the lung because of tuberculosis called as destroyed lung people will be with one lung. So it has to be looked after carefully. So we need to take care of the lung. Avoid the risk factors which really helps in development of COPD especially air pollution and smoking these are the biggest risk factors and take care of your lungs. Protect your lungs. Take vaccinations that's good thing to do. You can definitely live with the one lung and if the other lung is having the problems and the life expectancy will be definitely low because with the two lungs the lung capacity and the oxygen supply to the all the organs will be good. With one lung it will be difficult but there is no hard and such rule that people live with one lung will die early. So one lung is good enough to have company to the body and definitely they live longer with one lung which is really healthy otherwise if it load is too much high then the lungs can't take it
