National Highway 127 B is a new project that is going to connect Srirampur, Assam and Nongstoin passing through Garo Hills via Phulbari, Rongram, Jengjal, Samanda, Songsak & Rongjeng. It is partially completed from Jengjal to Nongstion(except small portion from Darugre to Rongjeng). On completion it have one of the longest bridge in India over river Brahmaputra connecting Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Garo Hills. It will have around 400 kilometers in total length. On reaching Nongstoin this highway connects with NH 44E (all the way to Shillong).
This new highway has become a lifeline for Meghalaya connecting Garo Hills and Khasi Hills bypassing (to travel through Guwahati) Assam. So it solves the decades old dependance on Assam for travelling from Tura to Shillong. This NH is one of the best highway in Meghalaya, it gradually descends from low lying hills of Garo Hills to high altitude Khasi Hills plateau. As it passes through the heart of Garo Hills and Khasi Hills plateau, it offers scenic beauty- rolling hills, pristine rivers, beautiful landscape, dense forest, lakes, waterfalls, amazing view points, beautiful hamlets with rich culture & heritage etc. If you haven't travelled through this beautiful road kindly make a trip.. you will definitely enjoy the nature at its best. I remember travelling through this road(old road via Asanang not Jengjal then) in late 90's, how beautiful it was then and still is to this day..
