The Poem:
I held the fallen leaf gently in my hand.
Like many others, it had fallen from a tree.
Many died; they were brown on the ground,
but this one was red - as if it wasn't dead.

As I stared - my hand and the trees, became a blur.
The leaf was all I saw in that focused moment.
As I pondered the wind caused a stir.
More leaves began to fall - silent, to the ground.

Is this all I thought. They grew, they fell.
Oh my gosh, what the hell.
They grow, they die, they compost to the ground.
And all throughout they don't make a sound.

Thus is the story of the fallen leaf.
It's fall, and that's what they bring.
No denying, having a belief
They'll grow again in spring.
