18th-century pastor and hymnodist Robert Robinson who penned the words in the year 1758 at the age of 22. He was one of the most Naughtiest Boys and was a member of a gang that troubled many people but suddenly one incident changed his life. And He came back to God and become a Pastor and wrote this hymn.
