It has become an unfortunately common problem for people with cognitive impairments to end up lost. According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 6 of every 10 people with dementia wander. Missing persons with cognitive impairments have become an increasing concern in the Truckee Meadows. Local law enforcement have seen a sharp increase in calls relating to seniors with memory problems who had wandered and become missing. Although common, wandering can be dangerous– if not found within 24 hours, up to half of those who wander risk serious injury or death. In northern Nevada law enforcement and search and rescue have saved missing persons with dementia from dangerous locations near water, drains, and heavy brush miles away from home.

Sober Footprints provides a path to recovery for those affected by addiction.

Join us at Pinot’s Palette-Reno West Studio Friday, September 15 7:00 - 9:00PM in helping to spread awareness about Sober Footprints and raise money for this organization.

In light of the current Opioid epidemic in our country, Sober Footprints will open the conversation of recovery. SoberFootprints will feature recovery programs and families who have been affected by alcohol and drug addiction will share their stories. Those in recovery will leave their “SoberFootprint” for others to follow. This fundraiser will help kick start a regional TV show, Sober Footprints while additional funding will support the launch of USARehabCenters.org a database for providers, where individuals can access support throughout any stage of their recovery.

Tickets are $39 per painter and can be purchased online at www.pinotspalette.com/ renowest/event/185179. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older and we encourage you to arrive at least 30 minutes early. All you have to do is sit back, relax and tune into your inner Picasso, all while supporting a great cause for our community.

This new path will change the way we incarcerate inmates and better facilitate these individuals in becoming whole and productive members of society. In return, this will reduce the cost of incarceration to the taxpayer, allowing Washoe County to thrive. These new policies will require the Sheriff’s Office to partner with the community and will persuade “A New Way of Thinking”, “A New Way of Seeing” and “A New Way of Being”. Not only do we need to think outside the box, but we need to throw the box away.
