In this video I compare the sounds of the mellophone with that of the flugelhorn. Aurally there isn't a huge difference that is transmitted, but the mellophone has a wider sound that makes more of an effect in person. Slight correction - during the video I say the instrument is in Eb, but it's actually in F.
